to be more specific this model is used to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of
Japan Railroads that commemorates the 1872 opening of the first Government
Railway between Tokyo and Yokohama.
This model is colloquially known as the
"D51" after the model of locomotive that is pictured on the dial. The
Class D51 was manufactured between 1936 and 1945 with 1,115 units were built.
The country’s first railway opened on Oct. 14, 1872, between Shimbashi Station
in Tokyo and Yokohama Station in Yokohama, with a steam locomotive that
traveled on the line becoming a symbol of Japan’s westernization movement at
the time. The spread of railway services since then has supported industrial
development and people’s lives. Oct. 14 is designated as Railway Day in Japan.
