Girard Perragaux Gyromatic 39 Jewels automatic circa 1960s

This is another GP automatic. According to the advertisements in 1957 and the information feom the internet: "The Gyrotronic is the invention of a Swiss horological engineer and represents an entirely new solution to an age-old technical problem. It combines with almost incredible simplicity such intricate functions as: Roller-Bearing, Free-Wheel, Automatic Clutch and Rotation-Inverser." "The Gyromatic transmits energy of every movement to the mainspring without any loss. The very first milligramme of energy automatically pinches the rollers of ruby transmitting that energy to the mainspring.". They even state: "The scarcely perceptible movements of a person aspeel suffice to wind up the watch automatically."

The 39 jewels Gyromatic is the most iconic vintage GP watches from the 1950s -70s. The watch is in very good condition with an original metal bracelet and the crystal dial and winding crown. I have traded my Casio metal plus another watch for this watch. There are some versions without the GP raised logo. In this watch, I was told that the raised GP & The markers are solid gold.

Tudor Oyster 7934 with special dial for the Middle East or Indian market 2

As mentioned in my earlier Tudor Oyster 7934 with special dial for the Middle East market or Indian market 1, I have managed to find a special Tudor watch 7934 Oyster with decorated concentric dial design and with filigree design inside the dial. There are a total 3 colours namely Red, Blue, Green plus it comes with two sizes  34mm and 30mm.

My seller friend Yu from Hong Kong has a set of three and he wanted to sell it as a set of three.as below:

Since I have already have the red dial, I will need to pair up with Matthew to get these collectively. I have taken the Blue and he took the Green & Red.

My blue dial watch is from second quarter of 1959

Girard Perregaux Gyromatic 17 jewels circa 1970s

Girard-Perregaux’s first automatic watches used base movements made by A. Schild (and, later, Peseux), Girard-Perregaux was dissatisfied with their performance and they developed a winding module, called the Gyromatic, which was then added to a blank manually-wound movement. The Gyromatic employed two “Gyrotron” wheels, which made the watch wind smoothly; additionally, each wheel had seven rubies on it to protect the movement from unnecessary wear.

As part of the streamlining exercise, I have traded my clock and a vintage Camera for this GP automatic 17 jewels watch

Rolex Oyster Majestic ref 2280 from 1942

There were several watches Rolex produced specifically for the Commonwealth nations. The reference 2280 manual wind watch has many names such as the Speedking, Royalite, Royal and Oyster Majestic etc. It has two versions with the early one with subsidiary seconds and the later one with sweeping seconds. The hand wind early Rolex from the 1940s-50s-60s are very reliable watch and many are still in perfect working conditions till today. These were the pre Rolex reference 6694.

The design elements from the case to the dial are reminiscent of the Rolex Bubbleback designs that were common in the 1940s, with Mercedes hands and the desirable black dial.. There is a yellow 60 seconds at the edge of the dial scale. The crown has the "Rolex Oyster". It has a size of 30mm, small by today's standard but is comfortable size to wear. This watch is from 1942. It is 78 years old this year!

I am in the process of tightening my watch collection and I have promised myself to maintain the number of watches as well. As such, I have traded my Titus Calypsomatic for this beauty.

By the way, Actor Marlon Brando was born in 1924, and received his first Rolex in 1943, at age 19 from his parents. It was a Rolex Oyster Royalite Observatory model similar size of the Rolex Oyster Majestic.

The.Rolex Majestic even though is a small watch 30mm, it has a relatively large winding crown which made it easy for winding and adjustment of time.

Longines Art Deco Tonneau watch

I have always long for a Longines Art Deco Tonneau watch as I used to have one in silver more than 20 years ago. Not sure why I sold it away...
