The Rolex 5513 has interesting dial changes in different periods, such as Explorer Dial with 369 digital time scales, Rolex Gilt Dial from 1962-66, Maxi Dial from 1966-84, Glossy Dial from 1984-90...
All kinds of changes add playability and collectability, and the market price ranges from 10,000 US dollars to 100,000 US dollars. It really deserves to be the icon of Vintage sports watches.
Two versions of the Rolex 5513. Right is the earlier gilt dial 5513. Left is the Meter first in Malt dial.
Many collectors love the 5513 as there is no date function, and the layout of the dial is symmetrical. In addition to better interpretation by divers, the mirror without a magnifying glass provides better aesthetic consistency.
5513 was deliberately not certified by the COSC Observatory because of the market positioning at the time (obviously this movement has the Observatory certification on other models).
As a result, it is not printed with the words Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified, presenting a clean and simple overall aesthetic.
People often say that acrylic is warmer and more beautiful. Specifically, when the light refracts into the dial, the color temperature is lower, it is yellower, and the light is arc-shaped and not as sharp as the straight line of the crystal mirror. Therefore, players say that the watch with acrylic crystal is very difficult to photograph, but it is super beautiful if it can be photographed clearly.
Most collector will use the two-way bezel rotates, and the acrylic crystal as characteristic of vintage. Rolex 16610 onwards uses a crystal mirror and one-way rotating bezel can be classified as Neo Vintage.
What made the Rolex 5513 iconc is that 007 James Bond James Bond was wearing 5513 in the movie during the actor Roger Moore Roger Moore period.
The Rolex 5512 certified by the Observatory with a higher market price positioning.
The Rolex 5517 produced in cooperation with the British Ministry of Defence for the use of British troops. It looks similar to the 5513 except that It has a fixed bars on the lugs and the bezel is slightly different from the normal 5513 with full minute markers.
