Rolex Viceroy Reference 3359

The Rolex Viceroy has a similar movement as the Rolex Viceroy. The Viceroy ref 3359 with Pink gold bezel and crown is one of the more unusual vintage Rolex watches simply because the Oyster case is so unique in appearance. The stepped flat top case is one of Rolex’s most pleasing designs. As a result of the different case design, the Viceroy generally commands a premium over the Speedking. I have traded one of my Titus Calypsomatic for this beauty. The Rolex Viceroy comes in solid gold, stainless steel and half gold (yellow and pink)

The Rolex Viceroy side by side with the pink gold bezel Rolex Speedking boy size watch. Both small size by today's standard but both have the best hand wind movement made by Rolex from the 1940-50s. Once the fashion cycle for smaller watches has returned, these will become the darling of collectors again.

Milus calendar Day Date watch 笑口早

This is a inexpensive Milus calendar Day Date watch. What made this watch special is that it was made for the Chinese market with Chinese characters day disc. Cantonese called this watch 笑口早. Found this watch at the flea market at Sam Sui Po.

Longines Pointer Date

This is a rare Longines watch, often known as the “Pointer-Date”, bearing the reference 5412. This watch is unique for its striking resemblance to the extremely popular oversized time-only Longines watches of the 1940-1950s. This watch has an extra hand pointing to the edge of the dial to indicate the day of the month. Watch was from Mr. Wong

Election Grand Prix triple calendars watch

When I first started collecting watches in 1988, I have started with these Vintage Election Grand Prix boy size watches. It comes with all steel, steel with gold and solid gold. Most of these were simple 3 hands watches, but there are some with the triple calendars functions as below, one with sweep second and another with subsidiary seconds. I love these early pointed date watch..

History of the Election Watch Co. is as follows from the best source I could find: The company was founded in in 1850 as A. Braunschweig.

In 1900 the company was listed as Les fils de L. Braunschweig for all kinds of watches from cylinder to lever, simple and complicated, repraters, chronographs, calendars, grand sonnerie and chronographs.

They exhibited at the Paris expo in 1900.

In 1916 the company was listed as L.Braunschweig, Fabrique d’Horlogerie Election SA

In 1920 the company had an ad. For Manufacture des Montres Election.

IWC Interational Watch Co. Schaffhausen C.8541B

Vintage Men's Stainless Steel IWC Interational Watch Co. Schaffhausen C.8541B Automatic Watch with Date. Features IWC C.8541B Movement with rare beautiful Blue dial.

I have always love the blue dial as many of these blue dials often has issues with corrosion from the luminous markers. This one is in excellent condition.

Vintage IWC ref R881AD (1811)Yacht club with blue dial

Vintage IWC Yacht Club in blue dial. This Yacht Club, technically reference 1811 AD, features a robust all-steel case with screwed back and oversized water resistant crown.

Introduced at the Basel Fair in 1967, the Yacht Club was IWC’s attempt to create an all-weather, dressy-casual watch that the owner could wear in all environments. It represented a departure from the military pieces that the manufacture produced during and just following World War II, or the Aquatimer, the brand’s first dive watch that was released in 1967. IWC intended the Yacht Club to inhabit a middle ground between the two—still water resistant, still robust, but elegant enough to pass muster at a yacht club, for instance.

I have been a look out for for IWC Yatch club in blue dial for a while. Previously, I have one IWC automatic in blue dial but I have sold it to a friend...

Rolex Zephyr Reference 1008 Black dial

The Rolex Zephyr line is noticeable for its dial quartered by two perpendicular lines and a particular fluted bezel, dubbed astral, with engraved hour markers.

The first Zephyr model reference 6582 appeared on the market in the second half of the 1950s with a silver, black or gold dial and only in steel/gold (yellow or rose). The dial markers are made of luminous material, “leaf” or dauphine hands, the writing is generally printed in black, except for certain rare models with the maximum depth printed in red. The movement is 1030 calibre with a Butterfly wind motor with a Chronometer Certificate.

In 1959 the Rolex Zephyr reference was replaced by the new reference 1008 with 1560 calibre and a slightly smaller crown. This model was available in steel with gold bezel, 14kt and 18kt gold (ref. 1009) with a moiré bezel and coordinated bracelet.

At the start of the 1970s Rolex introduced the new Zephyr reference 1038 distinguished by a dial with printed rectangular hour markers and baton hands and a bezel engraved with rectangular markers.

The rare Zephyr ref. 1512 was also produced in this period, only in gold (14kt or 18kt) with date and 1575 calibre

I have been looking for a Zephyr for several years. It has taken so long as many of the watch dial is either reconditioned or in bad shape plus many of its bezels are also heavily worn. After years of searching, I have finally managed to find one nice 1008 Zephyr in black dial. I have to trade my IWC blue dial automatic with some cash top up for this beauty.

Over the weekend, I have decided to source for a metal vintage Oyster bracelet for the Rolex 1008 from Mr. Wong. I like the metal bracelet combination better as it made the watch looks slightly bigger and is more comfortable to wear and easy to remove.

What made this reference unique is that the watch dial has no metal markers indicators. Instead, the markers are in doted luminous. In addition, the bezel has its own unique design versus the 1601,1600, 1603.
