For those who knows me, I am generally a vintage watch lover. However, over the period of years, I have came to appreciate some modern watches. These are my small collection of modern watches. Even though my main focus is still on the Vintage ones, these are some which have unique proposition that make collecting a joy. The only disturbing trend for modern watches is the escalation of prices especially for the modern Rolex watches, which is getting ridiculous. However, the Tudor Black bay is a good alternative with values proposition.
I love the Mido Powerwind as it was a limited edition watch for the past model. it has a nice colorful dial and at very reasonable price. the vintage one is already selling for more than HK$40,000 making the newly launched one a bargain HK$8000.
The Breguet TypeXX XX has just been discontinued in 2019. It is a very functional and tough watch for everyday use. Hey, which Breguet can we get at this price point?
The IWC Mark XVIiI Petit Prince is for my son and it has both the elegant look as well as a modern touch.
The Rolex Kermit 16610LV is a special watch made in celebration to the 50th anniversary of Submariner watch. It as a perfect size of 40mm with a sharp green bezel, Prices has increased a lot after it has been discontinued especially for the flat A model. It has taken me a long time to get this and I have to use my saving in rentals to get it.
The Tudor Blackbay Harrods is another watch that is unique with its special green bezel made for Harrods departmental store. I was thinking of the Blue Bucherer edition but the watch is 43mm in size and much bigger than the 41mm Harrods. Moreover, the increasing number of variants in dials for the Tudor Black Bay has diluted the collectability of the Tudor as it seems to have endless series. As such, I have decided to stop with the Harrods and the Tudor SP01.
The Tudor SP01 is a must for watch collector as it was based on a project from the past that didn’t take off. Some collector think the project is not real as well. Some collector has mentioned that Tudor has launched the SP01 basing on the myth rather than real... I am not sure but we all know that Antiquorum has sold several controversial Vintage pieces at high prices many years ago.
