I used to have a bigger collection of Vintage Seiko divers watches. However, during the process, I have decided to streamlined and keep only the few that I really like namely Vintage Seiko Diver watches : 62 Mas 6217-8000, 6105-8110, 6159-7000.
1. 6217-8000/1 (OR Seiko
62MAS-010).The 6217-8000/1 was in
production from 1965 to 1968. The 6217-8000 model only ran
in production for 2 months, (April and May 1965), and was replaced by the
6217-8001. There are minor differences between the models, the most easily observable
is that the 6217-8000 is the small crown version. It is generally known as Seiko first automatic diver watch. There have been subtle
variations in bezel height through the life of both models. The common name is Seiko
62MAS-010 (62 Model AutoMAtic Selfdater) after the 6217A movement used in the
watch.
2. 6159-7000/1 The production run of the
6159-7000/1 was small and lasted one year from 1968 to 1969. It featured a screw-down
crown and the movement was derived from the 6159A Hi-Beat 36000 bph Grand
Seiko, manual wind with quickset date. This 25 jewel 6159 movement,
was derived from the well-respected 61xx movement that ran the Grand Seiko and
was confined to professional Seiko dive watches. The dial reads SEIKO
Automatic Hi-Beat at 12 o’clock, and Professional WATER 300m PROOF and with the Suwa symbol at 6
o’clock. The indices at 6 and 9
o’clock are rectangular, and a divided trapezium is used at 12 o’clock.
3. Seiko 6105-8110. As a diver's tool, the 6105
is a worthy instrument in all regards.
Developed by Seiko in the late 1960s, the large asymmetrical watch
boasted 150 meters of water resistance, a bi-directional bezel for dive timing
and large swaths of luminescent material for high visibility underwater.
