Rolex Explorer II Ref 1655 & 16550

Rolex Explorer II Vintage Ref 1655 was unpopular models when they were launched. The Rolex 1655 was often called the Orange hand and was later replaced by the 16550.

Rolex Explorer 16550 is a transitional reference which came between the 1655 and the 16570. These 16550s came with a black and white dial, but due to a mistake in the production of the early series of the white dials, the white became more cream. This, along with the aging of the lume in the hour makers, makes for a beautiful, low contrast dial. Beware that there is fake Rolex 16550, 16570 cream dials in the market. Better get one with the cream Rail dial to be safe.
