Rolex ref 6305-1 18k Rosegold Datejust Ovettone

The ref 6305 is an interesting watch as it has the hybrid feel of the Rolex Bubbleback and Datejust. This is an early Rolex Datejust ref 6305-1 Datejust Ovettone (known by their Italian nickame ‘Ovettone’ (big egg) due to the exceptional depth of case) from the year 1953 using the early A296 semi bubbleback movement in my favourite 18k rose gold. Despite it having the semi bubbleback movement, the watch is highly accurate for its age....

Jan - Mar 2022, Q1 Review

For the year 2022, I hope to stay more focus and also follows some thematic in my series collection but somehow, my collection has become too wise again. I have continue my collection with the Exotic watches such as the Amida Digitrend, North Korean, China watches plus continue my finetuning of my Rolex Datejust series. In addition, I have also managed to find a nice Omega ref 3944 Square Moonphase watch from Portugal.

Omega ref 3944 Cosmic Square Moonphase watch

The Omega Cosmic Moonphase watch was originally introduced to the market in 1947. It was Omega's first watch featuring a full calendar combined with moon phases. The shape started with a round one and eventually evolved to the square one. The ref. 3944 is the last Cosmic for Omega and it is perhaps the rarest version of the Cosmic line.

The ref 3944 featured  an oversized 32.5x36mm case with elaborate fancy lugs. It used caliber 381 and it was produced in 14k yellow gold for the American market and 18k yellow gold for the European markets, and in Rose Gold which is the rarest of the three metals produced.

I used to own one Omega cosmic squre moonphase during the late 1990s. For some reasons, I have traded it away, a decision that I have regretted. After much searching, I have finally managed to get one back after more than 20 years.
